# Can you make a game with AI using only your phone?

> Partly. With the Claude app on your phone, you control the AI that writes the game, but the work happens on a computer that stays on or in the cloud, linked to a GitHub account. Godot, a free game-making program, runs on Android phones, still at an early stage and not adapted to small screens. Godot doesn't run on the iPhone.

Summary for when you're short on time

- Claude Code, the AI that writes the game's code, runs on Windows, Mac and Linux, not on phones.
- With the Claude app, on an iPhone or Android, you can control the AI working on your computer, as long as the computer stays on.
- Another option is cloud sessions, which keep going with your computer off but require the project to be stored on GitHub.
- Godot has an Android version, released in 2023, that needs at least 3 GB of memory and is still at an early stage.
- According to the people behind Godot, about 87% of Android installs are on phones, but the program has not yet been adapted to phone screens.
- Godot doesn't run on the iPhone or the iPad.

Your first step: Check how much memory your phone has (in Settings, under About phone) and whether it's an Android or an iPhone. That decides what you can do on it.

## What can you do from your phone?

You can control the AI, use the game-making program on an Android phone and test the game. What almost always stays outside the phone is the place where the AI works.

| What you want to do | Can you do it on a phone? | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Run the AI that writes the code (Claude Code) | No: it runs on Windows, Mac and Linux | Claude Code documentation[1] |
| Control the AI working on your computer | Yes, with the Claude app, while the computer is on | Claude Code documentation[2] [3] |
| Control the AI working in the cloud | Yes, with the project stored on GitHub | Claude Code documentation[2] |
| Use Godot on the device itself | Only on Android, with 3 GB of memory or more | Godot documentation[4] |
| Use Godot on the iPhone or iPad | No | Godot documentation[4] |

## How does controlling the AI from your phone work?

The phone becomes the controller, and the work happens somewhere else. The Claude app, on iPhone or Android, has a Code tab that connects to a Claude Code session, the AI that writes the code inside the game's folder[2].

There are two ways. In the first, remote control, the AI works on your computer, with the game's files, and you send requests from your phone. The computer has to stay on and the program open; if it goes to sleep or the internet drops, the connection comes back when the machine wakes up[3]. The feature is available on the paid Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans[3].

In the second, a cloud session, the AI works on Anthropic's computers and keeps going even with yours switched off. The condition is having the project stored on GitHub, a website that stores and organizes the files of software projects[2].

You can also send a photo through the app, such as a level drawn on paper, and the AI receives the image along with the request[2].

## And does the game-making program run on a phone?

On Android, yes, with caveats. Godot, the free program where the game is put together (what the industry calls a [game engine](/en/glossary/what-is-a-game-engine)), has had an Android version since 2023[6]. It needs at least 3 GB of memory and Android 7; 6 GB and Android 11 are recommended[4].

Godot itself warns that this version is at an early stage and that the screen has not been adapted to the phone format[5]. Even so, according to the people behind the program, about 87% of Android installs in 2025 were on phones, and the editor had reached 1.2 million installs[6]. On a small phone, the documentation suggests using floating window mode[5].

Godot doesn't run on the iPhone or the iPad[4].

**The other side.** Making an entire game on just your phone, with no computer and no cloud, is still the hardest path. Godot on Android doesn't have the AI working inside it, the screen is cramped and the program is at an early stage. Controlling the AI from your phone works well, but it depends on a computer switched on somewhere or on the project being on GitHub, and on a paid plan.

## So what's the best use for your phone?

Being the controller and the place to test. In our reading, the phone is most useful for asking the AI for changes during breaks at work and for playing each version, while the computer, or the cloud, does the heavy lifting. To find out whether your machine can handle it, see [whether your computer is good enough to make games](/en/start-here/computer-requirements-to-make-games). ## Related questions

### Can you make a game with just a phone, without a computer?

Partly. On Android, Godot runs on the phone itself, without the AI working inside it. The coding AI can work in the cloud and be controlled from your phone, but that requires the project to be stored on GitHub.

### Can you make a game on an iPhone?

Godot doesn't run on the iPhone or the iPad. On an iPhone, you can use the Claude app to control the AI working on a computer or in the cloud.

### Does the computer have to stay on to control the AI from your phone?

With remote control, yes: the AI works on the computer, and the program has to stay open. If the computer goes to sleep or the internet drops, the connection comes back when it wakes up. In the cloud, the work continues with the computer off.

### Do you have to pay to control the AI from your phone?

Claude Code's remote control is available on the paid Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans. Claude's free plan does not include Claude Code.

### Which phone works for Godot?

An Android phone with at least 3 GB of memory and Android 7; 6 GB and Android 11 are recommended. On small screens, the documentation itself suggests using floating window mode.

### Can you test the game on your phone?

Yes, and it's one of the best ways to use your phone: play each version of the game, find what's wrong and ask the AI for the fix, even if the game is being built somewhere else.
